Premature Ejaculation Consultation
Premature ejaculation is a very common sexual disorder affecting up to 1 in 3 men in the UK. Premature ejaculation as a general rule can be said to be occur when a man climaxes within two minutes of starting intercourse.
The condition can cause a lot of stress and embarrassment for those men affected. It is often a very difficult thing to discuss with your partner, and many men shy away from seeking any form of medical help.
What are the causes of premature ejaculation?
For many years experts have attributed this to a learned experience often resulting from a rushed early sexual encounter, where the main objective was to “cum” as quickly as possible to avoid detection.
Anxiety or nerves also play a role in this, which creates a vicious circle of performance and failure.
What treatments are available?
For mild cases where the man would just like to last longer, but the premature ejaculation isn’t particularly severe (say 5 minutes plus), there are various techniques the man can do to help extend the time of intercourse. This can be as simple as distracting himself by thinking about something other than the sexual act he is performing.
For more severe cases, there are various treatments our doctors may be able to prescribe for you if suitable.
One of these treatments is called Priligy, which comes in a 30mg and a 60mg dosage depending on your body weight.
While Priligy can be used to treat premature ejaculation, it is not a cure in itself. It is actually an anti-depressant, Priligy dapoxetine, belonging to a group of medicines known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)
One of the side effects of priligy is its ability to prolong the duration of an erection.
Reports vary in the effectiveness of the drug, with claims being made that it can help 7 in 10 men achieve longer lasting erections.
Are there any side effects?
As with any medication there can be side effects. These can include nausea, diarrhoea and headaches.
Who should not take priligy?
- You have heart failure or other serious heart problems such as a heart arrhythmia.
- You have moderate or severe liver problems.
